Fertility & IVF Acupuncture in Adelaide
Acupuncture for Pregnancy
Several trials have examined the effect of acupuncture on symptoms that occur in pregnancy and the effect of acupuncture on labour. Most of the trials examining the effect of acupuncture in pregnancy have focused on its action during and before labour, measuring labour pain and duration, as well initiation of labour when it is overdue.

Journey — From First Consultation to Positive Test
Whether you're just beginning to try for a baby, navigating a complex IVF cycle, or recovering from a difficult loss, Dr Liu offers gentle, evidence-based acupuncture designed to support every stage of your fertility journey.
Dr Liu's clinic is based in Somerton Park, near Glenelg, and she also offers in-home visits across Adelaide — particularly valuable for patients who need to rest following embryo transfer.
Supporting Patients at Adelaide's Leading IVF Clinics
Dr Liu works alongside patients attending all major Adelaide IVF and fertility clinics, including:
Repromed · Embrace Fertility · Fertility SA · City Fertility Centre · Flinders Fertility · Family Fertility Centre
If you're currently undergoing treatment at any of these clinics and would like acupuncture as a complementary support, Dr Liu is experienced in coordinating care around your IVF schedule — including sessions timed around egg collection, embryo transfer, and the two-week wait.
Home Visits After Embryo Transfer: Adelaide's Only Mobile Fertility Acupuncture
After embryo transfer, your specialist tells you to rest. Travelling to a clinic isn't ideal — and it shouldn't have to be.
Dr Liu is one of the only acupuncturists in Adelaide who offers home visits, bringing professional, clinical-grade fertility acupuncture directly to you. Many patients choose this option for their post-transfer sessions to maximise rest and reduce stress, two factors that matter enormously during the two-week wait.
Home visits are available across Adelaide including Glenelg, Brighton, Henley Beach, Norwood, Unley, Burnside, and surrounding areas. Please enquire for your suburb.

What the Evidence Says
A Cochrane systematic review (2018) found that acupuncture performed around the time of embryo transfer may increase clinical pregnancy rates for women undergoing IVF. Additional studies point to improvements in uterine lining, blood flow, and stress hormone levels in patients receiving regular acupuncture during fertility treatment.

Frequently Asked Questions
When in my IVF cycle should I start acupuncture?
Ideally, starting 2–3 months before your IVF cycle gives the best results, as this supports egg quality and hormonal balance in the lead-up. However, acupuncture can still be highly beneficial when started during a cycle, particularly around egg collection and embryo transfer.
Can you come to my home after embryo transfer?
Yes. Dr Liu offers home visits specifically for post-transfer sessions. Please call or email to arrange, as these appointments are in high demand.
Do you treat both partners?
Yes. Dr Liu treats both women and men. Male fertility acupuncture is often overlooked but can make a meaningful difference, especially when sperm quality or motility is a factor.
Is acupuncture safe during IVF medication?
Yes. Dr Liu is experienced in working alongside IVF protocols and uses gentle, safe techniques appropriate for each stage of treatment. She is happy to liaise with your specialist if needed.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your situation. For IVF support, most patients benefit from weekly sessions during the stimulation phase, plus targeted sessions around egg collection and transfer. For natural fertility support, a course of 6–10 sessions over 2–3 months is a common starting point.
Do you bulk bill or accept Medicare?
Acupuncture is not covered by Medicare, but all private health funds except Bupa cover acupuncture under extras cover. Dr Liu can provide a receipt for health fund claims.
